Weight Loss Drugs
It is a frightening fact that increasing numbers of people worldwide are gaining weight, worse
still is the number of school-age children that are falling into the obese category. For some, the decision is
simple and they just write out a cheque for the surgery but others prefer the harder approach of actually getting
fit and controlling their diet. The problem is that many people are impatient and want instant results so they
resort to taking weight loss drugs instead of living a healthy lifestyle.
The process is relatively simple as the drugs act upon the brain's own chemical, serotonin,
fooling the brain into believing it's not hungry and at the same time increasing the body's metabolism. The problem
arose when it was found that one of the side effects from this type of drug was the increased risk of heart valve
disease and of course the drug was quickly withdrawn from use. Since then, newer drugs have been developed and
doctors continue to prescribe them although they are still awaiting FDA certification.
These weight loss pills have become popular and you can almost guarantee that you will know of
someone who has tried them with success. Let's be honest, it's in our nature to like things that provide near
instant results, without having to put in any effort. As a result of this, consumers everywhere have spent untold
millions on these supposed wonderful weight loss drugs.
Despite the advances in weight control pills there are still health problems, some of which
people are sickness and diarrhoea. But they are not the only side effects and some can be more harmful than
others.
This is why it is so important to see the doctor before starting a course of pills. These
effects can be equally unpleasant as the side effects occurring as a result of taking weight control pills.
Generally from the reports it would seem that the effectiveness of weight loss drugs is improved
if they are combined with a regular exercise program and a low calorie diet. This type of diet requires a balance
of the food groups to ensure a proper intake of vitamins, minerals and fibre, almost all of which can be bought at
your local supermarket but may require a little preparation.
Exercising will need to be carried out if you want to benefit from the healthy food option but
this probably needs to be worked out in advance with your physician. A good exercise plan with the use of weights
will help improve the body's ability to burn off the calories and maintain a healthy heart.
